BOOST YOUR BUST WITH TUBA
The Ultra-modern Scarless Breast Augmentation Technique

With the summer approaching, women start to think of how they will look in their bathing suits and more revealing summer clothes. If you are not satisfied with the size, symmetry, or shape of your breasts, a breast augmentation procedure can enhance your appearance, confidence and your self-esteem, which allows you to live a fuller life.

Breast Augmentation techniques have improved greatly over the years. Today, with the ultra-modern TUBA (Transumbilical Breast Augmentation) technique, cosmetic surgeons are able to enhance the breast without visible scars on the breasts or in the armpits. The surgery is usually performed in an outpatient basis, whereby you will return home the same day. General anesthesia is most commonly used, although local anesthesia may also be an option. The surgery usually is completed in one to two hours. In addition TUBA has a shorter recovery time and is associated with fewer complications.

What is the TUBA Technique?
Through a small incision in the umbilicus (navel or belly button) a specially designed blunt instrument is passed under the skin towards the breasts. Disposable tissue expanders are used beneath the pectoralis muscle on the chest to develop the desired look of the augmented breast. Once the breast area is prepared for the actual implant, the tissue expander is removed and an empty breast implant is placed in the breast and filled with sterile saline water to the desired volume. All of this can be achieved without visible scars on the breasts.

Placement of the Breast Implant
The pectoralis muscle, the muscle on the chest under the breast tissue, is used to give breasts a more natural look and feel. Advantages of having an implant placed under instead of over the muscle include: breast tissue feels more natural, the implant covered by the muscle is almost undetectable to touch, the shape of the breast has a more natural contour, less risk of capsule formation, no sagging of the breasts caused from the weight of implants, and less interference with mammograms. Because of these benefits, cosmetic surgeons try to place the breast implants under the muscle whenever possible.

Risks of Breast Augmentation
  Bleeding
  Infection
  Asymmetry
  Capsule formation
  Deflation
The TUBA technique may have less risk associated with it than with the older techniques used for breast augmentation.

Advantage of TUBA
  No visible scar on breasts
  Decreased risk for infection
  Decreased risk for bleeding
Decreased risk for capsule formation and contraction
Less interference with mammograms post surgically
Ability to breast feed is conserved
  Nipple sensation is conserved
  Less pain
  Less down time

Recovery Time
Each patient will tolerate pain post-operatively in a different way, and we consider this. Appropriate pain medications are prescribed for the post-operative patients, and these help minimize discomfort. Your breasts may remain swollen and sensitive to physical contact for as long as a month. You may also experience a feeling of tightness or pressure in the breast area as your skin adjusts to your new breast size. You may also have difficulty raising your arms above your head until the swelling subsides. A support bra or a sports bra should be worn during the recovery period. You many be able to return to work as soon as two days after surgery, although you should avoid any strenuous activities for at least a couple of weeks. Regular aerobic and more vigorous activities are not allowed during the first 2 to 4 weeks in order to decrease the risks of bleeding, swelling, or bruising and to allow the implant to settle in the appropriate desired position.

The use of sterile saline water implants with the TUBA technique to augment the breasts gives the added benefit of allowing the cosmetic surgeon to adjust the volume of the implant during the procedure to achieve the optimum level of augmentation and the desired look. In addition, if a deflation or a leak occurs in the implant after the surgery, there is no risk to the patient, as the body absorbs the water without harm and the implant can easily be removed and replaced using the same incision site, in the belly button, as was used during the initial TUBA procedure.

Breast augmentation is done to increase the size and improve the proportion of a woman's breasts. A woman must be at least 18 years old for breast augmentation. If you are interested in breast augmentation, make sure you understand the risks and benefits associated with the procedure. Only with a consultation and a physical examination by an experienced cosmetic surgeon can you and the surgeon decide what is the best approach for you to achieve your desired goals. Although the ultra-modern TUBA technique may benefit many, not all patients are appropriate candidates for this procedure and may benefit more from a more traditional approach to achieve their desired new look.
